Military/Veterans Networking Night
Date: Wednesday, April 24
Time: 6:30-8:30 PM
Location: Alumni House
1918 F Street NW
Washington, DC 20052
In networking, timing is critical. It's not just about finding the right opportunity to discuss your skills, but being able to interest someone else in your experience and capabilities in a short period of time. To help students practice their "elevator speech" and make professional contacts, the GW Office of Alumni Relations and Career Center are co-hosting a Speed Networking Night for the military/veteran community. At the beginning of the event, students are given a primer on networking. Then the students and alumni are brought together for a three-minute conversation. When time is up, students rotate on to a new conversation with another alumnus/a. The event concludes with alumni providing feedback on students’ networking skills and by providing a reception for military/veteran students and alumni to network in an unstructured manner.
It is imperative that you arrive by 6:30 p.m. so we can properly match alumni with the appropriate number of students. The schedule for the evening is as follows:
- 6:30 - 7 p.m. - Alumni will network with each other while students are in a networking workshop
- 7 - 8 p.m. - Students test their newly acquired networking skills with alumni in intervals
- 8 - 8:30 p.m. - Open networking for everyone (a great time for alumni to share feedback with students)
We are aiming for a 2:1 ratio of students to alumni, so unfortunately we have a limited amount of space available for participating alumni.
Refreshments will be provided.
We hope that you can take an evening and volunteer with us for this dinner. If you have any questions, please contact Mark Forrest at email@example.com or 202-994-3293.
